BREAKING: North Korea Fires Military Spy Satellite, Seoul says

On May 31, South Koreans woke up to phone alerts and air raid sirens asking its citizens to prepare for potential evacuation.

South Korea’s military said Wednesday that a missile was fired by North Korea at around 6:32 a.m. The missile, which the North claims to be a space launch vehicle, was fired in a southerly direction, causing Seoul and other cities in the South to issue warnings.

A meeting of the National Security Council was requested at short notice by President Yoon Suk Yeol.

A space launch vehicle carrying a military satellite would launch between May 31 and June 11, according to a prior announcement by the North.

Seoul city officials say the evacuation alerts which was sent to phones and triggered air raid sirens were accidentally issued. Clearing there is no threat from North Korea‘s missiles.
