Going to Concerts Can Help You Live Longer, Study claims

In a world filled with stress and responsibilities, finding ways to improve our well-being and enhance our longevity is important.

A 2018 research conducted by Associate Lecturer Patrick Fagan at Goldsmith’s University has shed light on a surprising factor that may contribute to a longer and healthier life: regularly attending live music gigs and concerts. In his study, Fagan explores the profound impact of music performances on our mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Fagan’s findings highlight the potential health benefits associated with attending gigs and emphasize the positive impact music can have on our overall quality of life.

The NME reports that a study by O2 and Associate Lecturer Patrick Fagan, a behavioral science expert at Goldsmith’s University, suggests that attending gigs regularly can lengthen your life by nine years.

Study results indicate that spending 20 minutes at a gig can improve well-being by 21%. Study participants also experienced greater levels of self-worth, closeness to others, and mental stimulation, all of which rose by at least 25%. Additionally, the research found a positive correlation between attending gigs regularly and an increased sense of well-being. According to the study, people who attend live shows once a fortnight are more likely to rate their happiness, productivity, and self-esteem higher than those who don’t.

Results are based on custom psychometric and heart-rate measurements taken during various leisure activities, including yoga, dog walking, and concerts. There was a 21% increase in participants’ emotional well-being as a result of the concert experience. A remarkable 75% increase in mental stimulation was also attributed to increased feelings of self-worth and connectedness to others.

Other scholarly research has linked high levels of well-being with an increase in lifespan of up to nine years. To put it simply, if you want to live longer, go to a live show.

Patrick Fagan, Expert in Behavioural Science and Associate Lecturer at Goldsmith’s University said:

“Our research showcases the profound impact gigs have on feelings of health, happiness and wellbeing – with fortnightly or regular attendance being the key. Combining all of our findings with O2’s research, we arrive at a prescription of a gig a fortnight which could pave the way for almost a decade more years of life.”

K-pop concerts go beyond mere entertainment; to more concerts!
