JYP Entertainment To Stop Producing Physical Albums

On August 3, 2021, one of the biggest entertainment companies in Korea, JYP Entertainment released its 2021 ESG report explaining the company’s actions toward a healthier and blooming environment.

The report contains the activities of JYP Entertainment internally and externally. Reducing activities that create huge environmental impacts such as producing the albums and merchandise of their artists. In order to reduce waste generated from the albums, the company will be releasing digital-based albums that will replace plastic physical CDs. Photocards will be the only inclusions when buying physical albums. Songs, behind the scene videos, photo books, and lyric books will be available through digital code access such as QR and NFC.

The packaging materials of the albums will be produced with eco-friendly materials in package design, by utilizing FSC-certified paper, soybean oil ink, and coatings that will effuse a few chemicals. Artists’ merchandise will be manufactured with biodegradable plastics made from natural materials and upcycling products using discarded water that can be reused several times. Eco-bags and tumblers will be sold more frequently. JYP Ent will be partnering with various social enterprises and ventures to achieve this.
