K-Pop Groups Who Experienced Black Ocean

As we all know each K-Pop artists have its official lightstick and colors. Fans use them to cheer and are part of the fun concert environment. However, other fandom groups use also the lightstick to show their displeasure towards the artist or performance or what we call the “Black Ocean.” A huge number of fans turn off their lightsticks when the other artists are on stage resulting in a black ocean. Here are some of the K-Pop groups who experienced the black ocean from the audience.

1) SEVENTEEN

At the 2015 Mnet Asian Music Awards, SEVENTEEN experienced having a black ocean while performing. The group just debuted and didn’t have any official lightstick for their fans to cheer on. 

 

2) BTS 

The boys experienced the black ocean twice; at the 2016 Golden Disk Awards and 2016 Melon Music Awards. Since then, a rivalry between EXO-Ls and ARMYs was formed.

3) T-ARA

At the 2012 World Conservation Congress K-Pop Nature+ Concert, the audience did not just turn off their lightsticks but allegedly chanted Hwayoung’s name instead of a traditional fan chant. The bullying scandal of the group just got exposed, the reason why the audience put up a black ocean.

 

4) Girls’ Generation

One of the first groups who experienced the black ocean and the most infamous incident. At the 2008 Dream Concert, fans of other artists turned off their lightsticks during the ten-minute performance of the girls. The audience also chanted “Wonder Girls,” known as one of the rivals of Girls’ Generation during that time.
